Christmas holidays 2024

The University of Siegen would like to inform you about its opening hours around the Christmas holidays 2024. The University would like to provide all students and employees with planning security at an early stage with a uniform regulation. This will also help to save energy and thus improve the ecological footprint.

The university buildings will remain closed from December 23, 2024 to January 5, 2025.

All employees are asked to give priority to taking vacation or reducing overtime during this period. If this is not possible (e.g. urgently required activities or vacation already completely used up or no overtime available), employees should work from home where the activities are suitable. The following applies to working on site: access to the buildings is possible with a chip key. In the event of an emergency while working on site, the university refers to the internal emergency number 2111. From 21 December 2024 to 5 January 2025, the post office will not be staffed and no mail will be transported.

The university is asking all employees to implement three measures on their last working day before Christmas:
1.    turn your heating thermostat to frost protection (snowflake symbol, alternatively “1”).
2.    make sure that doors and windows are closed
3.    switch off the computer including the screen and other electrical appliances.

The following applies to the Studierendenwerk Siegen:
•    All gastronomic facilities of the Studierendenwerk (canteens, bistro, food court) are also closed from December 23, 2024 to January 5, 2025. Catering for the Leos will also not take place during this time.

This does not apply to the University Library locations:
•    All locations will be closed from December 21 to January 1 (New Year). From January 2, 2025, the libraries on the Adolf-Reichwein-Straße (AR) and Unteres Schloss (US) campuses will be open again. The branch libraries ENC, H and PB will reopen on Monday, January 6, 2025.
