CHE Master Rankings: Siegen Students Express Plenty of Praise
The University of Siegen received very good overall ratings from its students in the latest ranking of master’s degree programs by the Centre for Higher Education (CHE). The ranking particularly focused on master’s degree programs in mathematics, computer science, and physics.
Master’s students in the fields of physics and computer science expressed above-average levels of satisfaction with their studies at the University of Siegen. The master’s ranking was published by the Centre for Higher Education (CHE). Depending on the subject, up to 15 criteria are taken into account. Students evaluate the overall study environment, the transition into the master's program, the range of courses offered, and support for study abroad, among other factors.
Computer science students at the University of Siegen rated their university highly on all surveyed indicators, with some scores significantly exceeding the average of all universities. They gave particularly high ratings to the support from instructors, the practical relevance of the teaching, and support for study abroad.
Students in the master’s program in physics similarly awarded above-average grades for most indicators. Students gave particularly high ratings to the practical relevance of the teaching and the digital learning components in their program. They also expressed strong satisfaction with the support they received during their studies. They reported that all instructors were very friendly and always available to answer questions, including many flexible contact options, the comments indicated.
“The university administration and all instructors are committed to continuously improving teaching and learning and providing optimal support to our students throughout their studies. I'm very pleased to see that shining through in the ranking,” says Professor Hans Michael Merzendorfer, prorector for studies, teaching, and quality management.
Because there were not enough responses, no evaluation of student feedback was available for the master’s degree program in mathematics.
The master’s program rankings feature not only assessments by master’s students, but also statistics on instruction and research. The Department of Computer Science stood out in particular for the number of successful doctorates awarded per professor. This figure serves as an indicator for how strongly early career researchers are supported, as well as for the intensity of research.
The CHE ranking is the most comprehensive and detailed higher educational comparison for the German-speaking world. The complete set of results can be found here.
